Counselors and Staff

Our program would not be where it is today without the continuous support of our volunteer counselors and staff. The 60+ member staff reflects more than 783 years of Boys State experience. Nearly all of the counselors attended Boys State when they were in high school or serve as a Trooper on the Florida Highway Patrol. Many counselors are also members of the Legion Family.

Counselors are specially selected every year and range from college students to retired citizens. They come from all kinds of different backgrounds including Education, Law, Media, and Hospitality.

The Counselor team is also very diverse with different religions, political beliefs, and favorite sports teams.

Florida Highway Patrol

The Florida Highway Patrol has served with the Florida Boys State Program since it began in 1940. Florida State Troopers take on the roles of city counselors and staff.
Delegates will have the opportunity to interact with Florida State Troopers during the entire program and may even have one as their city counselor.

City Counselors

City Counselors guide the delegates throughout
the program, monitoring their progress, and ensure their enjoyment of the program.

They maintain 24-hour a day supervision of the Boys Staters and assure each delegate is where they need to be for each activity. The also ensure delegates conduct themselves appropriately at all times.

A City Counselor is expected to be a mentor and a guide, while allowing delegates to be leaders.
